Humboldt Sink is a large, dry lake bed located in northwestern Nevada, United States. It is part of the Humboldt River basin and is situated between the towns of Lovelock and Fernley. The Humboldt Sink was formed during the Pleistocene era, when the ancient Lake Lahontan, which covered a significant portion of western Nevada, began to recede and dry up. Over time, the lake bed filled with sediment and became a vast desert landscape. Today, the Humboldt Sink is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, bird-watching, and exploring the unique geologic formations of the area.
